Pioneers and Orabs Split Doubleheader

Sheldon Orabs 1Okoboji, Iowa — Okoboji and Sheldon split a Siouxland Conference basketball doubleheader in Milford Tuesday night. Okoboji took the girls game 59-26, while the boys game went to the Orabs 64-52.

In the girls game, undefeated and state ranked Okoboji led at all the breaks. The Pioneers were up 18-6 at the end of the first quarter, and moved the lead to 29-13 at the midway point. At the end of three, Okoboji extended their lead to 44-20, and moved to a 59 -26 victory.

The Pioneers had 2 players in double figures with Megan Peschong hitting for 14 points and Molly Mitchell added 13.

Sheldon’s leading scorer was Haley Jungers with 8 points.

With the win, Okoboji improves to 15-0 overall and 12-0 in the conference. Sheldon falls to 3-12 for the year and 2-11 in the conference.

In the boys game, Sheldon jumped to an early lead and by the end of the 1st it was 17-9 Orabs. Sheldon would hold off the charging Pioneers, and go into halftime with a 30-25 lead. Sheldon would pull away in the 3rd, extending their lead to 46-33 and would go on for the win 64-52.

The Orabs had 3 players in double figures, Jaden Kleinhesselink had a team high 20 points, Ian Jongewaard added 15, while Kyle Boerhave had 11 points, all coming in the 2nd half.

Okoboji was led by Alex Heller with a game high 23 points and Bryce Peters added 16.

Sheldon Improves to 7-7 on the year, 7-4 in the conference. Okoboji stands at 4-10 on the year, and 2-9 in the conference.

Up next for the Orabs, the away schedule continues with a road trip to Rock Valley Friday night. The Pioneers will play host to Central Lyon on Friday.
