Milford Iowa — Sheldon dropped a basketball doubleheader at Okoboji Tuesday night. The girls final was 73-44. The boys score was 76-66.
In the girls game the Pioneers bounced back after seeing their 12 game winning streak ended by Boyden Hull in a one point loss. The Pioneers were in control through out leading 11-5 after the first quarter and 36-18 at the half. At the end of three the lead was 58-29 with the 9th ranked team in Class 3A getting the win 73-44.
Kallyn Stumbo scored a game high 17 points. Also in double figures were Carissa Dorn with 13 points. Megan Christopherson and Camry Jones hit for a dozen each. Sheldon was led by Maliah Kleinhesselink with 11 points on the night.
With the win Okoboji moves to 13-1 on the year and 10-1 in the conference. Sheldon is 4-11 for the season and 3-9 in the Siouxland.
In the boys game Okoboji led at all the breaks 24-9 at the end of the first quarter and 39-27 at the half. With a pair of free throws Jordan Jeffries had closed the gap to 9 points only to have the Orabs see Jaden Heller launch from the far side of mid court and hit a three at the buzzer that put the lead at 39-27 at the half.
It was the last of 10 threes the Pioneers hit in the first half and for the game. At the end of the third quarter the lead was up to 59-43 to set the stage for the Orabs fourth quarter comeback. Sheldon got within three points at 69-66 late in the contest but was forced to put Okoboji at the free throw line. The Pioneers responded by going 9-of-10 in the fourth quarter to put the game away and win by ten, 76-66.
Lucas Lorenzen led all scorers with 30 points in the contest. he was joined in double figures by Jamison Helmers who pumped in 28 points. Sheldon had three players in double figures led by Tye Sudbeck with 29 on the night. Jordan Jeffries was next with 12 followed by Mitchel Wolf with 11.
With the win Okoboji is 7-6 for the year and 4-6 in the Siouxland. Sheldon stands at 4-10 for the year and 3-8 in the conference.
Up next for Sheldon will be a home double header on Friday with MOC Floyd Valley. Okoboji will be at home Friday as well hosting Rock Valley.
