Post To Play Basketball, Softball at Northwestern

Shayla Post, of Sioux Center, has signed a letter of intent to continue her basketball and softball careers at Northwestern College next year.

Post is a 5’7″ multi-sports standout who played four years for the Sioux Center High School basketball team. Post averaged 9.6 points, three rebounds and nearly two assists in earning second team all-conference honors as a senior. She made a team-high 39 three-pointers, shooting 39% from beyond the arc, and played a key role on a Warriors’ team that finished as the class 3A state runner-up back-to-back seasons. Post earned third team all-conference honors as a junior and plans to major in Biology/Health Professions at Northwestern.

“We are excited that Shayla has chosen to be a Red Raider,” commented Northwestern head coach Chris Yaw. “Shayla will be a great addition to our basketball program and to our campus community. She has demonstrated a tireless work ethic in everything she does will also demonstrating a fierce competitive spirit. Shayla is a class act and will add to our team and the character we seek to uphold each day.”

Post is a three-year letterwinner for the Warriors softball team heading into her final season this summer. She earned third team all-state honors after hitting .519 with 14 doubles and 39 RBIs in leading her team to a sixth place finish at the state tournament as a junior. Post received first team all-conference and first team all-district accolades and was an honorable mention all-conference pick as a sophomore. Also a letterwinner in both volleyball and soccer, Post is the daughter of Marlyn and Jane.

“We are thrilled to have Shayla join us at Northwestern next fall,” stated Northwestern head softball coach Chris Nachtigall. “Shayla has had a tremendous high school career for one of the top programs in Northwest Iowa. She has outstanding work ethic and is a person of high character who will represent Northwestern well both on and off the field.”
