Raider Baseball Hits Three Home Runs In Game Two Win

Orange City, Iowa — Brady Roberts pitched six scoreless innings and the Raiders hit three home runs in leading Northwestern to a 5-2 win in game two of a doubleheader against Morningside played today in Orange City. The Raiders lost game one 11-4 and are now 1-5 in the GPAC, 8-14 overall.

Game Two: 5-2 win
Morningside scored its lone runs in the top of the second inning on RBI singles from Brian Garcia and Eddie Brancato. Gavin Lorenzen hit his first collegiate home run to put Northwestern on the board in the bottom of the second. The Raiders tied the game in the bottom of the fifth when Sutton Derr led off with a triple and scored after a single from Kip Cullinan. Jaden Snyder gave Northwestern the lead for good with a two-out, solo home run in the sixth. Northwestern plated two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth on a two-run home run from Colton Harold.

Brady Roberts (2-3) did not allow a run over the final six innings in relief. The sophomore gave up three hits and struck out five and only one Morningside hitter made it past first base. Ethan Buckner pitched 1.2 scoreless innings for head coach Brian Wede’s squad. Northwestern totaled 10 hits, including three home runs and a triple
Cullinan paced the Raiders with three hits; Derr and Lorenzen both had two hits.

Morningside’s Eddie Brancato went 3/4 with an RBI; Justin Lottman took the loss, giving up seven hits, three runs in 5.2 innings

Game One: 11-4 loss
Following a run scored by Morningside in the top of the first, a two-run double by Harold gave Northwestern its only lead (2-1). A five-run, third inning put the Mustangs in front for good; Hunter Hope dealt the biggest hit, a three-run home run. Northwestern shortstop Eli Rash led off the bottom of the third with his third home run of the season, cutting the Morningside lead to 6-3. Morningside scored five runs over the next three innings, hitting three solo home runs in the sixth inning. Evan Olesen drove in the Raiders final run with a pinch-hit single in the seventh

Northwestern totaled four hits; Morningside 13; the Mustangs had seven extra-base hits, including five home runs. Brett Shelton (L: 2-3) 3 IP, 5 hits, 6 runs, 3 K’s. Harold, Rash, Noa Vogel and Olesen all had one hit for NW.

Caleb Thomson (5-2) picked up his GPAC-leading fifth win; 6.2 innings, 4 hits, 9 Ks. Wade Canaday paced Morningside with four hits, three runs
