Raider Softball Wins Big In Game Two; Gain Split vs Doane

Orange City, Iowa — Emily Bosch and Alayna Bakke totaled three hits each and Kamryn Etherington picked up her GPAC-leading 14th win of the season in leading Northwestern to an 8-0, five-inning victory in game two and ensure a split against Doane in a GPAC softball doubleheader played today in Orange City. The Raiders dropped game one 5-2 and move to 8-4 in the conference, 21-9 overall.

Bosch and Bakke both went a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate to pace the Raiders offense. Bosch hit a two-run home run in the two-run home run in the second inning, her fifth of the season, and totaled three RBIs. Bakke scored two runs drove in one with an RBI single in the bottom of the third. Madysn Grotewold added two hits and one stolen base for Head Coach Shane Bouman’s squad.

Etherington (14-3) pitched her second shutout of the season, giving up three singles while striking out five in five innings.

Northwestern scored at least one run in every inning, taking a 1-0 lead after singles by Bosch, Jessica Mouw and Emily Strasser in the first inning. Up 3-0 after the home run by Bosch in the second, Bakke drove in courtesy runner Lily Anderson with a two-out single in the third to make the score 4-0.

Bosch drove in Grotewold with a single and came around to score the Raiders sixth run after a Doane error in the fourth. Singles from Bakke and Grotewold, combined with two Doane errors, ended the game as Northwestern scored its final two runs in the fifth.

Shelby Downard (6-8) picked up the loss, giving up seven hits and four runs in 2.2 innings. Jade Hill, Downard and Megan Elliott had singles for the Tigers.

Northwestern managed just five hits against Doane’s ace, Josie Schnakenberg, in losing game one 5-2. Erika McKenney went 1-for-3, hitting a solo home run in the fifth inning, Jordyn Kramer added a double and Mouw, Bakke and Grotewold all hit singles.

Doane went ahead with a two-run home run by Downard in the first inning off game one starter, Samantha Ubben (7-6), and never trailed. The Tigers plated two more runs off five hits in the third, extending their lead to 4-1, and forced Ubben to leave the game after being hit on the arm on a line drive by Alicia Vint.

McKenney’s home run cut the lead to 4-2 after the fifth but Jadyn Hunt led off the sixth inning with a pinch hit, solo home run off Sydnee Isom, for the game’s final run.

Isom worked the final 4.2 innings, giving up five hits and the one lone run.

Schnakenberg evened her record to 10-10 this season with a complete-game, five hitter while striking out nine. Downard, one of four Doane players with two hits in game one, drove in three runs.
