Sioux Center, Iowa — The Northwestern College women’s golf team shot a season-best and Dordt is in seventh place after day one of the Dordt Women’s Golf Invite held at The Ridge in Sioux Center, Iowa.
The Raiders carded a 341 and are in fifth place overall heading into Friday’s final round. They are six strokes in back of fourth place Mount Marty and eight shots behind third place Iowa Lakes Community College.
Two Raiders, Hayley Carlson and Morgan Roberts, are in the top 15 after the first 18 holes. Both players shot an 83, a career-best for Roberts, and are tied for 14th overall. Taylor Van Ostrand continued her strong spring with a career-best 87 and is tied for 26th. Kate Wynja shot an 88 (T28th) and Maddie Schrack fired an 89 and is tied for 33rd overall.
Dordt totaled a 354 on day one with cool conditions the rule. The Defenders are 12 strokes out of sixth place in the team race and were led by Rylie Brown’s 86 and Rachel Bostwick’s 87 for 21st and 26th respectively in the 57 golfer field. Morningside’s Laia Badosa and Sofia Castelan each shot 70 and are tied for the lead with 18 holes to go.
Morningside is the leader with a 288 while Briar Cliff is second with a 326.
Northwestern’s second team shot a 381 this afternoon, led by Abby Vander Laan with a 93 (39th). The Raiders other golfers / scores:
