OMAHA, Neb. — The Northwestern College women’s golf picked up their first team title at a tournament since March 31, 2021 as the Raiders took home the trophy at the College of St. Mary Matthew Goetze Fall Classic by four strokes.
In the one day event in Omaha, Neb., the Raiders came out and took home the team title with a team score of 366 in a field of eight teams. Of the eight teams at the tournament, seven hailed from the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) – Northwestern (1st), Mount Marty (2nd), Concordia (3rd), College of St. Mary (4th), Hastings (6th), Doane (7th), and Midland (8th). Northwestern finished four strokes ahead of the second-place finishing Lancers.
“Extremely proud of all the girls and how they played! The course was tough, the greens were unlike anything we’ve seen this year and the pace was slow,” said head coach Courtney Den Herder. “This is a great boost of momentum going into conference in a couple of weeks!”
Individually, the Raiders were led by Martha Stein (So., Milford, Iowa/Okoboji) who finished 4th at the event, followed by Madison Schrack (So., Grinnell, Iowa/Grinnell) in 5th. Taylor Van Ostrand (So., Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Christian) also had a top-10 finish, coming in 7th place.
Up Next: The Raiders will have about a week off to prepare for the fall portion of the GPAC Championships. The two-day fall event will take place on Monday, Oct. 4 and Tuesday, Oct. 5 at The Bluffs Golf Course in Vermillion, S.D.
