Austin Reitz claimed medalist honors in leading No.22 Northwestern to the team championship at the Eagle Spring Classic, a two-day, 18-hole event played at the Hillcrest Golf Club in Bartlesville, Okla.
Holding a three-stroke lead over both Central Baptist and Kansas Wesleyan with a 304 in the first round, Northwestern closed with a 312 today and held off second place Mid-America Christian (Kan.) by four shots. The Red Raiders 36-hole score was 616, followed by Mid-America Christian at 620, Columbia (Mo.) at 622 and both Central Baptist and Sterling came in fifth with a 625.
Reitz shot the low round Tuesday afternoon, carding a two-under 70, to win the meet by five shots over a pair of golfers (Roger Sack-Doane, Isaac Maston-MidAmerica Christian). The senior’s 70 was the low round of the day and moved him up seven spots after being in eighth place after the first round. Reitz picked up his first win of the 2018-19 season and third of his career.
Three additional Red Raiders finished among the top 20; Caleb Badura closed with a 75 today for a 36-hole total of 156, good for a tie for 16th place, Isaac Knock tied for 18th with a two-day total of 157 (75/82) and Tyler Merley also tied for 18th with a 157 (77/80) in his season debut.
