Rivals Collide As No. 4 Northwestern Hosts Dordt

Rivals collide in the Great Plains Conference this weekend in Orange City when Northwestern hosts Dordt.

Northwestern is 5-0 and ranked fourth in NAIA behind a defense that is giving up only 15 points per game.

That’s Northwestern coach Matt McCarty who says that defense will be tested by a Dordt offense that averages 44 points per game.

McCarty says the rivalry extends to all sports.

Dordt coach Joel Penner says in the locker room and on the practice field they are treating this like any other game.

Penner says they need to find a way to move the ball against the Red Raider defense.

Penner says the Dordt offense is designed to attack all parts of the field.

Northwestern is 10-0 all-time against the Defenders, playing once per year since the inaugural meeting in 2008. Last year, the Red Raiders earned a 41-23 home win, outscoring the Defenders 35-7 in the second half.

Kick off is at 1:00 pm at De Valois Stadium’s Korver Field in Orange City.
