Rock Valley Girls Top Orabs; Orab Boys Come Back For Win

Sheldon, Iowa — A big first half gave the Rock Valley girls a 54-37 victory over the Orabs, and the Sheldon boys stormed back in the 2nd half to take the victory over the Rockets 53-46 at the O-Rena Tuesday night.

Rock Valley stormed out of the gate to start the girls contest. The Rockets started the game with a 14-0 run and led after the 1st, 15-2. Rock Valley continued in the 2nd quarter, starting the quarter with 7-0 run en route to a 34-11 lead at the break. Sheldon then started to get back into the game in the 2nd half. The Orabs outscored Rock Valley 12-4 in the third, to pull within 38-23, but Rock Valley went on to win 54-37.

The Rockets had three players in double figures. Emily De Ruyter had a game high 13 points, and Abby Heemstra and Lexie Van Kekerix each had 12 points. The Orabs got a team high 11 points from Katie Wagner.

Rock Valley improves to 3-1 on the year and in the Siouxland. Sheldon falls to 0-5 on the year, 0-4 in the conference.

In the 1st quarter for the boys game, the Rockets went on an 8-0 run midway through the quarter after being down 7-5 and took a 13-7 lead heading into the 2nd. Rock Valley and Sheldon battled before the half, but Rock Valley extended their lead 28-19 at the break. The Orabs were down by as much as 11 in the 3rd quarter but got back to within 5 heading into the final quarter, 43-38. The Orabs would take their first lead of the 2nd half with just under three minutes to go in the 4th. Tyler Johnson would spot up from beyond the arc and drill the three pointer to give Sheldon the 47-46 lead, and that momentum would carry them to a 53-46 victory.

Sheldon had two players in double figures. Ryan Van Marel had 14 points and Jaden Kleinhesselink had 13. Rock Valley got a team high 14 points from Cade Moser.

Sheldon improves to 3-1 on the year, 2-1 in the Siouxland. Rock Valley falls to 1-2 on the year and in the conference.

Up next for the Orabs is a road trip to Okoboji Friday night. Rock Valley is back at home on Friday as they take on Central Lyon.
