Sibley, Iowa — The Rock Valley Rockets topped the Sibley-Ocheyedan Generals 54-36 in the first round of the girls Class 2A Region 1 basketball tournament in Sibley Saturday night.
The game started with both teams trading baskets, and after one, Rock Valley had a slim 16-13 lead. Rock Valley took control in second, holding the Generals to just 4 second quarter points, and Rock Valley had a 33-17 lead at the half. Sibley-Ocheyedan would pull to within 8 in the third but couldn’t get any closer as Rock Valley had a 37-27 after three and went on to win 54-36.
Rock Valley got a game high 22 from Lexie Van Kekerix, 12 from Abby Heemstra, and 11 from Lizzy Blum. Sibley-Ocheyedan got a team high 12 from Bria Wasmund.
With the win, Rock Valley improves to 9-13 on the year and will take on Western Christian on Tuesday at Western Christian. Sibley-Ocheyedan ends their year at 8-14.
