Hull, Iowa — The Rock Valley Rockets won a thriller late over the Western Christian Wolfpack 34-32 after Brayton Van Kekerix hit a jumper with .6 seconds left in Hull Thursday night.
It was a low scoring affair in the first quarter. After the first eight minutes it was 4-4. Western pulled away in the 2nd quarter and had a 17-10 halftime lead as Western’s Jacob Vis accounted for ten second quarter points. Rock Valley then went on a 12-0 run to start the second half and after three, the Rockets had a 27-22 lead. Late in the fourth Western’s Carter Broek hit two free throws to tie the game up at 32-32. Brayton Van Kekerix responded with a fade away jumper with .6 seconds left to give the Rockets a 34-32 lead. Vis couldn’t convert on the three pointer as time expired and Rock Valley came away with the win.
Rock Valley got a team high thirteen from Van Kekerix. Western got a game high sixteen from Vis.
With the win, Rock Valley improves to 16-7 on the year and will play West Sioux, who defeated Sheldon, on Tuesday in Orange City. Western ends their year at 12-8.
