Orange City, Iowa — (RV) Northwestern College extends its win streak to 10 games with an 83-67 win over the University of Jamestown in a conference match-up played tonight at the Bultman Center. The teams split the season series; Northwestern improves to 15-5 in the GPAC, 15-8 overall, while the Jimmies drop to 11-10 in the conference, 14-10 overall.
Molly Schany provided the scoring punch inside with 21 points, one shy of matching her career high, while Devyn Kemble and Sammy Blum scored 18 and 15 points, respectively, combining for eight three-pointers. Kemble, who has made at least one three-pointer in every game this season, drained 5-of-6 from beyond the arc while Blum made 3-of-5 three-point attempts.
The Raiders turned an early one-point lead (9-8) to an 11-point advantage (25-14) near the end of the first quarter, riding the hot shooting of Kemble and Schany. Northwestern extended its lead to 14 following another three-point by Kemble (30-16) before Jamestown began a comeback and scored the final eight points of the first half to make a two-point game, 36-34, at the break.
Tied at 47 midway through the third frame, Emilee Danner scored on a three-point play to put Northwestern up for good and begin a 10-2 run for a 57-49 lead at the end of the third quarter. Jazy Prins drained a three-pointer, Taylor VanderVelde converted a mid-range jumper and Maddie Jones capped the scoring run with two free throws. Defensively, the Raiders held Jamestown to just one field over the final four-plus minutes.
A three-pointer from Jada Cunningham put Northwestern in front 60-49 after the first possession of the fourth quarter and the teams exchanged baskets over the next three minutes. Leading by seven (64-57) at the 7:19 mark, Northwestern secured the win with a 9-0 run that began with five straight points by Schany and the final four scored by Hannah Nerem. The Raiders extended their advantage to as many 18 during the final minutes.
Northwestern shot 44% for the game, 50% in the second half, and made 10-of-25 three-point attempts (40%). The Raiders held a big edge on the boards (38-32), led by VanderVelde, who contributed a career-high 12 assists as well. Jones, the GPAC leader in assist / turnover ratio, had four assists.
Noelle Josephson poured in a game-high 27 points to go with 10 rebounds to lead Jamestown, making 10-of-15 field goal attempts. Macy Savela was the only Jamestown player to score in double figures with 17. The Jimmies shot 45% for the game and committed 19 turnovers.
