Sheldon Iowa — The Sheldon and MOC Floyd Valley softball teams played to an 8-8 tie Tuesday night. It was senior night for the Orabs. The game was suspended due to darkness after the end of the 8th inning. The game had been moved to the Sports Complex along Park Street due to wet field conditions at the high school field. There are no lights at the Sports Complex.
Sheldon put 4 runs on the board in the 1st inning. Makenna Kleinhesselink and McKenzie Wagner both reach and then scored on back to back rbi singles by Alexa Vanden Hall and Zoe Keorselman. They would score on an rbi single by Madison Van Meeteren and a fielders choice off the bat of Anessa Schoo.
The Dutch got on the board with a pair of runs in the third as Delanie Niemyer reached on a error and scored on Carlin Smith’s rbi double. Smith scored on an rbi single Jenna Aalbers.
MOC Floyd Valley put 3 more on the board in the fourth as Taryn Nothem, Delanie Niemyer and Zoe Heemstra all reached and scored. The first run came in on an rbi single from Heemstra. The other two scored on an error. At that point MOC Floyd Valley was in front 5-4.
Sheldon tied it up in the bottom half of the inning as Brooklyn Grady walked to lead off the inning and scored on a Vanden Hall rbi single.
The Dutch appeared to put it away with a 3 run seventh inning as Kenzie Kurtz, Jenna Aalbers and Taryn Nothem all reached and scored. Heemstra drove in 1 run and the other two came in on fielders choice plays and the Dutch were up 8-5.
Sheldon responded with 3 of their own as Johnson, Vanden Hall and Zoe Koerselman hit consecutive singles. Koerselman drove in the first run and the other two came in on a 2 run single by Mikayla Simonsen. That tied the score at 8-8 and an inning later that’s how the game would end after being suspended due to darkness.
Sheldon is now 7-12-1 for the year while MOC Floyd Valley is 8-13-1. The Orabs are 4-6-1 in the conference. The Dutch are 5-3-1.
both teams return to action Wednesday night. Sheldon is at Sioux Center. MOC Floyd Valley will host Boyden Hull Rock Valley.
