Sheldon And South O’Brien Split Saturday Afternoon Basketball

Sheldon and South O’Brien split a pair of non conference basketball games Saturday afternoon in Paullina. Sheldon won the girls game 60-30. The Wolverines stayed unbeaten on the year in boys basketball with a 47-35 win.

The Sheldon girls earned their first win of the season leading at all the breaks. They were up 17-8 at the end of the first quarter. At the end of the half Katelyn Grady hit a three just off the top of the arc to put Sheldon up 29-14. Claire Johnson hit a three with four seconds left in the third that game the Orabs a 46-20 lead as they went on to win 60-30.

Payton Lode led all Sheldon with 14 points followed by Johnson with 11 and Makenna Kleinhesselink with 10. Riley Draper of the Wolverines tied for game high honors hitting a trio of threes on the way to 14 points.

With the win Sheldon is 1-3 on the season while the Wolverines are 0-4 on the year.

The boys game went to South O’Brien 47-35. Sheldon held a 7-6 first quarter lead. The Wolverines closed on a run to go up by 8 at halftime 21-14. At the end of the third it was 35-24. Sheldon got to within one in the fourth quarter only to see South O’Brien pull away and ice a 12 point win by having four players go a combined 9 of 10 at the free throw line.

Sheldon got a game high 13 from Blake Radke who hit on a trio of threes. Shane Brouwer add a dozen. The Wolverines had one player in double figures with Hudson Oolman hitting for 10. Complementary scoring was big for South O’Brien as Jacob Van Lith and David Bottjen both contributed 8 points.

With the win South O’Brien remains unbeaten at 3-0. Sheldon slips to 1-2. The Orabs host George Little Rock on Tuesday night while the Wolverines will host Remsen St. Mary’s.
