Sheldon and West Lyon Split Basketball Doubleheader

Sheldon Iowa — Sheldon hosted West Lyon for a basketball double header Tuesday night. The girls game went to the Orabs 47-42 while West Lyon won the boys game 56-35.

In the girls game West Lyon led 11-7 at the end of the first quarter and pushed that to a 24-18 advantage before the Orabs mounted the second half comeback. At the end of three Sheldon was within a point at 30-29. In the fourth quarter the Orabs would take the lead and nail down the win at the free throw line. In the fourth quarter alone the Orabs went 9-of-11. For the game they were 10-of-16.

Freshman Maliah Kleinhesselink scored 13 points off the bench converting a pair of three point plays in the fourth quarter. Emily Meyer was next with 9 points. Cassidy Bart contributed 8 second half points.

West Lyon was led by freshman Brooklyn Meyer with a game high 16 points. Haley Knobloch had a 9 point night.

With the win Sheldon is 2-6 on the year and in the conference. The Wildcats are 4-4 on the season and 4-3 in the Siouxland.

West Lyon was in control throughout the contest as they led 7-2 after the first quarter. The lead was 21-8 at halftime. The Wildcats broke it open in the second half to take a 42-22 lead before going on to the win 56-35.

West Lyon had two players in double figures with Logan Meyer and Jalyn Gramstad scoring 14 points each. Sheldon was led by Tyler Lode with 8 points. With the win West Lyon is 3-5 on the year and 3-4 in the conference. Sheldon falls to 1-6 on the year and in the Siouxland.

Up next for the Orabs a pair of home games with Boyden Hull. West Lyon will be on the road for a doubleheader at Okoboji.
