Sioux City, Iowa – A Sheldon native has been named as Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Basketball Offensive and Defensive Player-of-the-Week as announced by the GPAC Tuesday, November 4th.
The Sheldon native named was Jesse Van Kalsbeek, who plays for Northwestern College. Van Kalsbeek is a sophomore and led the Raiders to three wins last week, averaging 31.0 points and 12.3 rebounds per game. In a win over Saint Francis he had 44 points, without making a three-point field goal, while shooting 77.3 percent from the floor.
Defensively, he was a force on the glass, picking up a double-double in each game, with 10, 13, and 14 rebounds, respectively. He also collected five steals on the week.
Van Kalsbeek has two 40-point double-doubles so far in four total games.
