Sheldon native and basketball standout for Northwestern College in Orange City, Alex Van Kalsbeek, has earned Great Plains Athletic Conference Player-of-the-Week honors for games played between January 15-21.
Van Kalsbeek, who is a sophomore, scored a school-record 52-points on Monday (January 15) against Midland, shooting 70% from the floor in the win. On Saturday, he knocked down a buzzer-beating three to send the game into overtime, where the Red Raiders would win in part to his 23 points and 11 rebounds. Van Kalsbeek averaged 31.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists over three games this past week.
