Sheldon Iowa — The Sheldon Orabs open State 2A Tournament play Monday night at 8:15 when they play Kuemper Catholic from Carroll. Sheldon takes a 21-3 record to state while the Knights enter at 15-8.
Sheldon has three players averaging double figures. Kyle Boerhave is averaging 13 points per game. Jaden Kleinhesselink averages 12.7 with Ryan Van Marel hitting for 10.3 per game.
As a team the Orabs are hitting 41.3 percent from behind the arc hitting 170 of 412 attempts. Tyler Johnson leads the way hitting 62-of-116 for 53.4 percent. Kleinhesselink is 40-of-91 for 44 percent. Kleinhesselink is also hitting 93.6 percent from the free throw line.
The team rebounding leader is Boerhave with 214 on the season. Van Marel is also over 200 with 210 boards on the season. Kleinhesselink leads the team in assists with 101 and steals with 28. Van Marel leads the team in blocked shots with 22.
Kuemper Catholic has two players averaging double figures on the season. Parker Badding averages 22.8 per game with Sam Auen averaging 13.8 per game. Badding is shooting 81.6 percent from the free throw line.
As a team the Knights have hit 42.5 percent of their three point shots converting 195-of-459 attempts. Badding is the leader hitting 47.1 percent converting 57-of-121 attempts. Auen is a 43.6 percent shooter hitting 72-of-165.
Justin Schroeder is the rebounds leader with 127. Jared Tigges is the assists leader with 80 while Auen and Tigges share the team lead in steals with 41 each. Schroeder leads the team in blocked shots with 25.
