Sioux Center Iowa — Cade Bleeker found Braden Jahn for a 32 yard touchdown with just :56 second left as Sioux Center came from behind for a 41-40 win over Sheldon Friday night. The play capped a 72 yard drive and the Extra point by Damon Walhof gave the Warriors the win. Sioux Center is now 7-0 on the year and 5-0 in the district. Sheldon is 5-2 for the year and 3-2 in district play.
Sioux Center scored on their first possession as Tyus Arends scored on a 2 yard run out of the wildcat formation. The kick was no good and the Warriors had the early lead 6-0 with 10:08 left in the first quarter.
Sheldon answered with a 68 yard drive. Brady Prescott scored out of the wildcat for the Orabs from a yard out and with Brian Bernal’s extra point Sheldon had a 7-0 lead with 5:56 left in the first quarter. It was a lead Sheldon would hold until the final score by Sioux Center.
After holding on downs Sheldon went on a 75 yard drive as Tyler Merley scored on a 3 yard run. Christian Ozuna hit the extra point and the Orab lead was 14-6 with 11:28 left in the half.
After again holding on downs at their own 8 yard line Sheldon went 92 yards with Brennan Radke hitting Tyler Lode for a 41 yard touchdown. Bernal added the extra point and the lead was 21-6 with 5:15 left in the half.
Sioux Center pulled to within 21-14 at the half as they scored on a 3 yard Dalton Schreiner touchdown run. Cade Bleeker hit Brendan Zeutenhorst for the 2-point conversion.
Sheldon scored on the first play of the second half on a 65 yard play from Radke to Lode. The extra point was no good and the Orabs were up 27-14 with 11:50 left in the third quarter.
The Warriors answered with a 69 yard drive capped by a Schreiner 2 yard run. The kick was no good and the lead was cut to 27-20 with 7:40 left in the third.
The Orabs were driving and had a first and 10 at the Sioux Center 25 yard line when play was stopped for 30 minutes for a lightning delay. When play resumed Sheldon finished the 54 yard scoring drive as Radke hit Phil Cain for a 21 yard score. The extra point by Bernal was good and Sheldon led 34-20 with 4:56 left in the third.
Sioux Center answered with a 64 yard drive as Bleeker found Zeutenhorst for a 7 yard score. the kick by Walhof was good and the lead was cut to 34-27 with 2:29 left in the third quarter.
Sheldon extended the lead to 40-27 with 1:25 left in the third. A 63 yard drive was capped by a 44 yard touchdown pass from Radke to Kyle Boerhave. The Kick was no good.
Sioux Center scored the final 14 points of the game as they went 83 yards after holding Sheldon on downs at their own 17. Schreiner scored from 1 yard out and Walhof added the extra point to make it a 40-34 game. The final score was the game winner from Bleeker to Jahn to tie it at 40-40 followed by the extra point from Walhof that won it making the final score 41-40.
Up next for the Warriors will be a home game against Boyden Hull Rock Valley in a battle of teams unbeaten in the district. Sheldon is on the road to Pocahontas Area for their final road game of the regular season.
