Solberg, Gaines Earn GPAC Football Honors

Sioux City, Iowa – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following football players-of-the-week for games played on Saturday, October 27, 2018. Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2018-2019 GPAC Players-of-the-Week and Players and Coaches-of-the-Year awards program.

Hauff Mid-America Sports/ Football Players-of-the-Week

Offense – Shane Solberg, Wide Receiver (Northwestern College)
Wide receiver Shane Solberg of Northwestern is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Offensive Player-of-the-Week. Solberg, a sophomore from Hull, Iowa, had a record-setting day in leading 6th-ranked Northwestern to a 39-29 road win over Hastings last weekend. Solberg matched his career-high with 13 catches for a school-record 269 yards and two touchdowns. He eclipsed the old record set by T.J. Spykstra in 2016. Solberg caught two touchdown passes, both over 50 yards, and has 991 receiving yards this season, just nine yards shy of becoming the second player in program history to get at least 1,000 yards in a season. The sixth-ranked Red Raiders will travel to Concordia on November 3rd. Kick off will be at 1 pm.

Special Teams – Brett Gaines, Kicker (Dordt College)
Brett Gaines of Dordt is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Special Teams Player-of-the-Week. Gaines, a senior, from Wood River, Illinois, connected on three field goals and all three PAT attempts in a 36-30 overtime win over Briar Cliff. His field goals came from distances of 36, 30 and 20 yards out for Defenders. Dordt will travel to Sioux City to take on top-ranked Morningside on November 3rd. Kick off will be at 1 pm.
