Solberg, Kacmarynski, Zachman Earn GPAC Football Honors

Sioux City, Iowa – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following football players-of-the-week for games played on Saturday, November 9, 2019. Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2019-2020 GPAC Players-of-the-Week and Players and Coaches-of-the-Year awards program.

Offense – Shane Solberg, Wide Receiver (Northwestern College)
Northwestern wide receiver Shane Solberg is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Offensive Player-of-the-Week. Solberg, a junior from Hull, Iowa, helped No.5 Northwestern to a 44-17 home win over Hastings. Solberg totaled six catches for 101 yards and matched his career-high with four touchdowns for a Red Raiders offense that totaled 400 yards. He caught touchdown passes from 24, 5, 29 and 2 yards out and tallied his second straight and fifth overall game with 100 receiving yards. Solberg is the program’s all-time leader in receiving yards, touchdowns and holds both the single game and single season receiving yards records. He is fifth in the NAIA in receptions and yards. The fifth-ranked Red Raiders host the top-ranked Morningside Mustangs on November 16. Kick off will be at 1 pm.

Defense – David Kacmarynski, Defensive End (Dordt University)
Dordt defensive end David Kacmarynski is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Defensive Player-of-the-Week. Kacmarynski, a junior, from Pella, Iowa, had two sacks, two fumble recoveries, broke up three passes and had an interception return for a touchdown in a 43-7 win over Briar Cliff. He became the career leader in sacks at Dordt with his two sacks on Saturday. His two tackles for loss raised his season total to 18.5 which is eighth best in the NAIA. The Defenders host the Warriors of Midland University on November 16. Kick off will be at 1 pm.

Kacmarynski also earned NAIA Defensive Player Honors as well.

Special Teams – Brett Zachman, Kicker (Dordt University)
Brett Zachman of Dordt University is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Special Teams Player-of-the-Week. Zachman, a freshman, from Leesburg, Florida, converted four field goals in the first half to help the Defenders build a 12-0 lead over Briar Cliff. Made a season long 44 yard field goal and ended the game a perfect 5-of-5 on field goal tries and 4-of-4 on point after attempts. The Defenders will host the Midland Warriors on November 16. Kick off will be at 1 pm.

Zachman earned NAIA Special Teams honors as well.
