Sydney Stiemsma, a senior at Western Christian High School, has announced her intention to attend Dordt College and join the Defender cross country and track programs.
Stiemsma earned all-conference honors in 2017 and qualified for the Iowa State High School Senior All-Star Cross Country Meet. She has a personal best of 6:12 in track and field in the 1,500 meters and 12:28 in the 3,000 meters. Her personal best on a 5,000 meter cross country course is 21:15.
“Sydney is coming off of her strongest year of high school cross country at Western Christian. She is a dedicated runner and incredibly hard worker. She is a fantastic fit for Dordt College and our program. I believe with her work ethic that her best races are yet to come. Additionally, with her personality and strong faith she will impact our program and campus in a variety of ways,” said Dordt College coach Nate Wolf.
Sydney is the daughter of Craig and Kristi Stiemsma of Hull, Iowa. She plans to study Psychology at Dordt College.
