Estherville, Iowa — South Central Calhoun Downed Sibley Ocheyedan 54-51 Wednesday night for the Class 2A Region 2 title and a trip to the Girls State Tournament.
Kylee Schleisman led the Titans with 14 points including some highlight moments throughout the game. She hit a 3 at the buzzer to tie the game at halftime at 25-25. At the end of the third quarter it was another buzzer beating 3 that cut the Generals lead to 41-38 going into the final 8 minutes. At the end of the game it was Schleisman again with a pair of free throws that turned a 1 point lead into a a 3 point advantage with 10 seconds left.
The Generals were unable to get off a three point shot as time ran out and South Central Calhoun had earned a State Tournament berth.
The game was tight all the way through. At the end of the first quarter the Titans led 11-10. It was tied at 25-25 at halftime. Sibley Ocheyedan went on an 8-0 run to start the second quarter and the Titans hit the half on a 7-0 run. The Generals up 41-38 at the end of the third setting the stage for a back and forth final 8 minutes.
Madison Brouwer hit for a game high 17 points with 11 coming in the second quarter. Olivia Hensch scored 14 including 4 buckets from behind the arc. Schleisman led the Titans with 14. Sayer Steig hit for 12 with Riley Batta adding 11.
With the win South Central Calhoun is on to state with a 19-5 record. Sibley Ocheyedan ends the season at 18-6 with a #5 ranking in the final Class 2A poll.
