Des Moines Iowa — Top five finishes were in abundance for area athletes this year at the State Track and Field Meet in Des Moines.
Day one of the meet was highlighted by a second and third place finish in the girls long jump.
Class 2A girls long jump
Mikayla Turek of Unity Christian was second at 17-04.50. Sheldon freshman Ashlyn Albrecht was 3rd with a leap of 17-00.50. The winning distance was 18-00.75.
Class 2A shot put
Micayla TerWee of West Lyon was 4th with a toss of 40-07.50. Kiana Phelps of Kingsley Pierson Woodbury Central won the event with a state record toss of 48-08.75.
Class 2A girls 4×800 meter relay
Unity Christian was 4th in a time of 9:48.38. Team members include Jordan Bos, Katie Broers, Katlyn Hoogland and Anneke Knauss. Monticello won the event with a state record time of 9:25.23.
Class 2A Boys 400 Meters
Travis Zevenbergen of Unity was 4th in a time of 50.24. The winning time was 49.36
Class 2A boys shot put
Caden Fenchel of Western was 5th with a toss of 55-05.25. The winning distance was 61-01.75 by Nick Phelps of Kingsley Pierson Woodbury Central.
Day two of the meet featured a pair of third place finishes.
Class 2A girls 4×200
Western Christian was 3rd in 1:45.46. Team members include Taylor Rus, Jessi DeJager, Emily VanGinkel and Erika Feenstra. Sioux Center was 4th in 1:46.39. Team members include Clare Kortlever, Aubrey Sandbulte, Camryn Cleveringa and Katie TeGrotenhuis. The winning time was 1:45.22
Class 2A Girls high jump
Cori DeJong of Western was 3rd at 5-01.00. Anna Kiel of Unity was 10th. The winning jump was 5-4.00.
Class 1A Boys 4×200
Central Lyon was 4th in 1:32.56. Team members include CJ Roths, Pete Menage, Mitch Van Beek and Riley Van Wyhe. The winning time was 1:31.38.
Class 1A Boys Distance Medley Relay
South O’Brien was 5th in 3:42.64. Team members include Cody Paulsen, Kyle Paulsen, Damon Struve and Peyton Brasser. The winning time was 3:36.01.
The final day of the meet saw four State Titles won by area athletes.
Class 2A Girls 4×400 Meter Relay
Western Christian won the state title with a time of 3:58.52. Team members include Kylie VantHul, Baily Nelson, Emily VanGinkel and Erika Feenstra. The second place time was 3:58.71.
Girls 100 Meters Wheel Chair Division
Keri Siebrecht of Sheldon won the title at 23.79. The second place time was 25.06.
Girls 400 Meter Wheel Chair Division
Keri Siebrecht of Sheldon was first in 1:31.52. The second place time was 1:45.42.
Girls 200 Meter Wheel Chair Division
Keri Siebrecht of Sheldon was first with a time of 46.53. The second place time was 50.43.
Class 1A Boys 100 Meters
David Van Dyke of Hartley Melvin Sanborn was 2nd at 11.37. The winning time was 11.30.
Class 2A Girls 200 Meters
Erika Feenstra of Western was 3rd in 25.83. The winning time was 25.33.
Class 1A Boys 4×100 Meter Relay
Central Lyon was 3rd in a time of 44.06. Team members include CJ Roths, Pete Menage, Mitch Van Beek and Riley Van Wyhe. The winning time was 43.34.
Class 1A Girls 800 Meters
Hailey Pullman of West Sioux was 4th in 2:22.63. The winning time was 2:19.68.
Class 2A Girls 4×100 Meter Shuttle Hurdle Relay
Sioux Center was 5th in 1:09.21. Team members include Bailie Sandbulte, Alyssa Mulder, Patricia King and Camryn Cleveringa. The winning time was 1:05.34.
Class 1A Boys 1600 Meters
Joe Anderson of George Little Rock was 5th in 4:36.09. The winning time was 4:25.95.
Class 2A Boys 1600 Meters
Jacob Vander Plaats of Unity Christian was 5th 4:33.08. The winning time was 4:21.36.
