Two NWC Red Raiders earn GPAC Soccer Player-of-the-Week honors

Sioux City, Iowa – A player from the Northwestern College women’s soccer team and a player from the Northwestern College men’s soccer team have been named Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Players-of-the-Week as announced by the GPAC Tuesday, September 2nd.

Mya Cole is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Women’s Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week. Cole, a sophomore from Rapid City, South Dakota, was effective on both sides of the pitch, leading the Raiders’ back line in a pair of shutout wins. Last week Wednesday, she put the Raiders ahead 1-0 with a free kick blast for her first career goal. Cole followed it up with an assist to Aliza Edwards for the game-winning goal in this past Friday’s 1-0 win over Bethel.

Edoardo Alessandrini of Northwestern College is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Men’s Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week. Alessandrini, a junior, from Rome, Italy, collected a win and a draw on the weekend, posting a 1.00 goals against average. He collected three saves in a shutout win over Bethel, including a defensive stand on a penalty kick in the first half.
