UNI QB Will McElvain Remains Sidelined Due To COVID Quarantine

Cedar Falls, Iowa — Northern Iowa football coach Mark Farley says starting quarterback Will McElvain will not play Saturday night when the Panthers visit Western Illinois.

McElvain was placed in two-week COVID quarantine on Friday, one day before UNI hosted Missouri State. Redshirt freshman Justin Fomby got the call in a 13-6 loss.

Farley says Fomby having a week to prepare will help and says it is just part of the adjustments needed when playing through a pandemic.

Farley says the COVID forced changes are like officials calls and it does no good to complain.

UNI is 2-3 on the season.
