UNI’s Mark Farley Talks Will McElvain Transfer And Previews South Dakota

Cedar Falls, Iowa — Northern Iowa quarterback Will McElvain has entered the transfer portal.

The native of Des Moines lost his starting job to Theo Day after a week two win at Sacramento State. He made the announcement via social media.

That’s UNI coach Marl Farley, who understands McElvain’s desire to play.

Farley says McElvain has also been hampered by a foot injury.

The Panthers have fallen five spots to 17th on the latest FCS Coaches Poll. UNI is coming off a 34-20 loss at North Dakota State and Farley says slow starts in the first and third quarters were costly.

The Panthers are at home this week against South Dakota. The Coyotes are ranked 21st.

Farley says South Dakota has a new look defense.
