Sioux Center, Iowa — Lucas Van Berkel, a senior at Unity Christian High School (Iowa), has announced his intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender hockey program.
“With the addition of Lucas we are adding two important elements to our program. Hard work and commitment. I have been impressed with Lucas’s desire to grow as a hockey player and challenge himself to be better. I have also appreciated that he took time to weigh the options he had out there as a hockey player. We are proud that Dordt is now a destination for players such as Lucas and we are excited to get him on the ice,” said Dordt hockey coach Tyler Morgan.
Van Berkel averaged 1.35 points per game with 17 goals and 10 assists this season. He was tied for fourth in the state tournament for goals scored as he served as team captain for the Sioux Center Storm. He’s played forward and defense during his career.
“I see a lot of potential in the upcoming years in Dordt hockey and I would like to help contribute to that,” said Van Berkel.
Lucas is the son of Tony and Judi Van Berkel of Sioux Center, Iowa. He plans to study health and human performance at Dordt.
