Van Donge Signs With Dordt

Austin Van Donge, a senior at Unity Christian High School, has announced his intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender basketball program.

“We are really excited to have Austin join our program–he’s a fantastic fit for Dordt University. He is multi-dimensional, can play many positions, and is a fantastic passer. He has strong Christian roots, and will be a person that will carry the torch for the Defender Way as his career progresses. He will be a leader in many ways in our program and on our campus. We are glad he is continuing his family tradition of attending Dordt,” said Dordt basketball coach Brian Van Haaften.

Van Donge is a 6-2 guard who averaged 15.3 points per game as a junior with 6.4 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game. He claimed first-team all-conference honors from the War Eagle Conference in 2019 and was a second-team All Northwest Iowa Review selection. Van Donge has missed this basketball season recovering from an injury suffered during the 2019 football season. He also claimed academic all-district and academic all-state honors in football.

“I chose Dordt because I’ve felt at home when I’ve been on campus. I’ve already been blessed to make great relationships and I look forward to continuing to build those. I also look forward to growing as a student and basketball player and most importantly as a man of Christ,” said Van Donge.

Austin is the son of Kevin and Janna Van Donge of Orange City, Iowa. He plans to study Biology at Dordt.
