Sioux Center, Iowa — Ashtyn Veerbeek, a junior from Sioux Center, Iowa, has been named to the NAIA Women’s Basketball All-American Second-Team.

Veerbeek had an immediate impact in her first season with the Defenders while averaging 15.4 points per game with 10.8 rebounds and she converted 45 percent of her field goal attempts. Veerbeek also recorded 62 blocked shots and had 27 steals which both topped the Defenders. She averaged 2.5 assists per game as the Defenders finished the season 15-11 overall and 14-8 in league play.

“Ashtyn had a tremendous first season with our program. She made strides over the course of the season and had an impact on league play. I look forward to working with her in the coming months and can’t wait for next season as we continue to maximize her potential and talents,” said Dordt coach Bill Harmsen.

Veerbeek was named all-GPAC first-team in balloting done by the GPAC women’s basketball coaches and this is the first year of the NAIA returning to a single division since 1992. This marks the third-straight year a Defender has earned all-American status.
