Sheldon Iowa — 3rd ranked West Lyon moved to 5-0 on the season with a 35-0 win at Sheldon Friday night. Four different players found the end zone for the Wildcats and Jordan VanVeldhuizen was perfect on extra point attempts.
A fumble recovery at the Sheldon 37 yard line became the game’s first score as Tanner Severson scored on a 10 yard run. Jordan VanVeldhuizen added the point after and it was 7-0 with 3:55 left in the first quarter.
A 46 yard drive ended on a 10 yard run by Korey Knoblock. The extra point made it 14-0 with 8:07 left in the half.
A Severson punt return set up the Wildcats with a 36 yard field after a penalty was assessed on the return. Quarterback Jaxon Meyer kept on a 2-yard run and the extra point made it 21-0 with 5:18 to go in the half and that would be the score at intermission.
A third quarter interception by the Wildcats at their own 45 yard line stopped an Orab drive. Eli Moser scored on an 18 yard run. The extra point made it 28-0 with 8:47 left in the third.
The final score of the contest came on a 54 yard drive that was capped by a 1 yard quarterback sneak by Meyer. VanVeldhuizen hit his fourth extra point of the night and the lead was 35-0 with 5:35 left in the third. The remainder of the contest was scoreless and West Lyon had their fifth win of the season.
With the win the 3rd ranked Wildcats are 5-0 for the year and 3-0 in the district. Sheldon is 1-4on the season and 0-3 in the district. Up next for the Orabs will be a trip to Northwestern campus for a game against Unity. West Lyon will be at Sioux Center.
