Sheldon Iowa — West Lyon had three big innings as they put together a 15-2 win over Sheldon in Siouxland Conference baseball Friday night in Sheldon.
West Lyon opened with a 4 run first inning scoring a pair of runs with the bases loaded and 2 more on a pair of Sheldon errors. Mitchell Rentschler, Jaden Snyder, Monte Pottebaum and Isaac Heyer would reach and score.
The Orabs scored in the bottom of the first as Alex Albrecht led off with a walk and later scored from third on a fielders choice by Cody Van Meeteren to pull the Orabs to within 4-1.
West Lyon added a run in the second inning as Mitchell Rentschler led off with a single and score on Tanner Oleson’s RBI double to put the Wildcats in front 5-1.
West Lyon scored 5 runs in the 5th inning. Highlights included an RBI double by Isaac Heyer, a sacrifice bunt by Josh Van Beek that plated a run and an RBI single by Nate Grotewold.
West Lyon put 5 more on the board in the 6th inning to take a 15-1 lead after the top of the 6th. Highlights included RBI’s coming on a fielders choice by Rentschler, a fielders choice by Oleson and a 2 run single by Pottebaum.
Sheldon got a run back when Cody Van Meeteren jumped on the first pitch to lead off the bottom of the 6th and deposited the baseball over the fence in left for a solo home run that would make the final 15-2 in favor of West Lyon.
Noah Van’t Hoff went 6 innings for the win. He gave up 2 earned runs on 4 hits while walking 2 and striking out 5. Zach Broesder took the loss going 4 and a third giving up 6 hits and 4 earned runs. He Walked 5 and struck out 5 scattering 6 hits and hit 2 batters in the contest.
With the win West Lyon is 21-4 on the year and 13-1 in the conference. Their next game is Monday at home against Boyden Hull Rock Valley. Sheldon is 9-11 for the year and 8-5 in the conference. They have a day-night, home and away double header on Monday. At 1:00 in the afternoon it’s Okoboji at Orab Field for a make up game that will be varsity only. On Monday nights it’s a game that was already on the schedule at Central Lyon.
