Sheldon opened the tournament play on the road at West Lyon Saturday night and the state’s #2 Class 3A team defended the home floor with a 61-37 win.
West Lyon led 9-6 at the end of the first quarter and took control of the contest in the second quarter to build a 31-17 halftime lead. At the end of three it was 49-27 with the Region 1 top seed moving on to the semis with a 61-37 win.
West Lyon will host a semifinal Wednesday night against Spirit Lake who downed Okoboji 60-52 in the other upper bracket quarterfinal.
Brooklyn Meyer led all scorers with 20 points. Randi Childress scored 10 and Zavyr Metzger was just out of double figures with 9. Sheldon seniors Makenna and Maliah Kleinhesselink ended their Orab basketball careers with 11 points each. Junior Claire Johnson added 10.
With the win the Wildcats are 21-1 on the year while the Sheldon finishes at 11-12.
