West Lyon downs Western to Advance to District Final

Larchwood Iowa — West Lyon downed Western Christian 13-3 in a 2A District 1 baseball semifinal on Tuesday. The Wildcats will meet Okoboji for the District title Saturday night back in Larchwood as Okoboji eliminated Spirit Lake 8-6 in the first game of Tuesday’s double header.

West Lyon opened with a 4-run first inning. Jackson Kramer and Josh Van Beek both reached and came home on a three run homer to right field by Easton Fleshman. Logan Meyer followed with a double and scored on a single to left by Jordan Ver Meer.

Western got on the board in the second inning as Zach Van Essen led off with a solo homer down the left field line that cut the lead to 4-1

The Wildcats made it 7-1 with a 3-run third as Meyer and Jaylyn Gramstad reached and scored on a 2-run double by Ver Meer. Ver Meer came in on Gavin Loarenzen’s single up the middle.

West Lyon plated two more in the fourth as Van Beek was hit by a pitch and Meyer reached on an error. Both scored on Ver Meer’s single to left field to make the score 9-1 in favor of the Wildcats.

Western got two runs back in the top of the fifth as Tyson Boer singled and Evan Wibben drew a walk. Kobi Baccam and Ty Van Essen followed with back to back rbi singles and the score was 9-3.

West Lyon ended it with a 4-run bottom of the fifth. Zach Van Beek and Lorenzen both singled. After a pair of strike outs, Fleshman singled in both base runners. Fleshman scored on a Meyer single and Meyer came in on a Gramstad single to left the ended the contest 13-3.

Jayln Gramstad got the win going the first 4 1/3 innings. He gave up 3 runs on 6 hits and struck out 9. Tyson Boer went the first 2 and 2/3 to take the loss.

With the win West Lyon is 12-3 on the year while Western ends the season at 6-7.
