Larchwood Iowa — The West Lyon Wildcats picked up a pair of home wins in a basketball double header Friday night on their home floor. The girls game went to West Lyon 51-25 with the boys final 50-42.
In the girls game the Wildcats led at all the breaks taking a 9-6 lead after a low scoring first quarter. A second quarter run put them up 30-12 at the half as they went on to the win 50-25.
Brooklyn Meyer led all scorers with a game high 21 points for West Lyon. Madison Hauge was next with 9 points. Sheldon was led by Cassidy Bart with 6 points followed by Brooklyn Grady with 5.
With the win West Lyon is 10-7 on the year and 8-7 in the conference. Sheldon is 8-11 for the year and 5-11 in the Siouxland.
The boys game ran tight from beginning to end with the Wildcats up 7-6 at the end of the first quarter. By halftime both offenses had come alive and the Wildcats maintained the lead at 23-21. Going into the fourth quarter it was all even at 40-40. In the final 8 minutes West Lyon would answer each potential Sheldon run and come away with the 50-42 home win.
Jalyn Gramstad poured in 21 points as the only player in double figures. Team mate Aaron Meiburg was just out of double figures with a 9 point game. Sheldon was led by Luke Van Beek with 9 points followed by Mitchal Wolf and Marshall Kleinhesselink with 8 points each.
West Lyon improves to 5-12 on the year and 5-10 in the conference. Sheldon is 4-14 on the season and 2-13 in the Siouxland.
West Lyon will be at MOC Floyd Valley for a girls only match up. Sheldon returns to the floor with a doubleheader at home against Central Lyon with the opening tip for the girls at 5:00. It’s also senior night as it will be the final home double header of the season.
