West Lyon swept a conference basketball doubleheader from Sheldon Tuesday night. At the West Lyon Gym the girls won 49-37. The boys made it a sweep with a 67-50 decision.
The third ranked Wildcats led 15-10 at the end of the first quarter and improved that to a 6 point edge at the half 25-19. West Lyon pushed the lead to 35-25 at the end of three and went on to win 49-37.
Brooklyn Meyer led all scorers with 21 points. Mallory Gramstad and Zavyr Metzger were just out of double figures with 9 points each. Sheldon was led by Makenna Kleinhesselink with a 15 point night.
With the win West Lyon is off to a 6-0 start with a 5-0 conference mark. Sheldon is 3-4 on the year and 1-4 in the Siouxland.
In the boys contest West Lyon opened with an 11-2 run to set up a 17-11 first quarter lead and the Orabs were unable to get closer than 6 the rest of the way. At the half the lead was 34-28 and at the end of the third quarter the Wildcats had pushed the lead to 49-39 and would go on to win 67-50.
West Lyon got a game high 24 points from Jaxon Meyer and 10 from Marcus Van Beek. Darren Meyer added 9. Sheldon was led by Blake Radke with a 20 point night. He was joined in double figures by Shane Brouwer with a 12 point night.
West Lyon got their first win of the season and are 1-2 both on the year and in the conference. Sheldon is even at 3-3 on the year and 2-2 in the Siouxland.
Both teams return to action Friday night with Sheldon at Boyden Hull and West Lyon playing host to Okoboji.
