West Lyon Wins 52-28 Shootout

Inwood, Iowa – #5 West Lyon topped Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley in a 52-28 shootout at Jay Rozeboom Sports Complex in Inwood Friday night.

On West Lyon’s first play a scrimmage Logan Meyer ran 69 yards for the score to give the Wildcats a quick 7-0 lead. Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley responded with a scoring drive of their own that was capped off by a Kodi Noble 6 yard touchdown run, tying the game a seven each. West Lyon used another big play to score. Jalyn Gramstad took the QB keeper 81 yards to pay dirt, making it 14-7 in favor of the Wildcats. BHRV again had an answer. Josh Heitritter was on the receiving end of a 40 yard touchdown pass from Keyton Moser to tie the game a 14 each. A third big play by the Wildcats resulted in points. Meyer took a screen pass 84 yards to the goal line to make it 21-14 West Lyon. The Nighthawks again responded with a score of their own. Kodi Noble ran it in from 26 yards out to tie the game again, making it 21-21 with 5 minutes left in the first quarter.

The Wildcats took a 28-21 lead midway through the second quarter when Meyer punched it in from 2 yards out, but again, BHRV scored in response. Josh Heitritter was on the receiving end of a 35 yard touchdown pass to make it 28-28. West Lyon took the lead for good when Mason Maurer scored on a 73 yard touchdown reception and Jordan VanVeldhuizen hit a 28 yard field goal before the end of the first half to give West Lyon a 10 point lead at 38-28 at intermission.

West Lyon added a score in the 3rd, and another in the fourth and came away with the 52-28 win.

With the win the Wildcats improve to 3-0 on the year and will host MOC-Floyd Valley next week. The Nighthawks fall to 0-3 on the season and will host SB-L in Hull on Friday.
