Western Christian hosted Bishop Heelan Saturday getting a split on the day. The girls game went to Heelan, the top ranked team in 4A 56-36. The boys game went to the Wolfpack 79-44.
Heelan led at all the breaks in the girls game. They started the contest on a 14-0 run and at the end of the first 8 minutes were up 14-4. At the half the lead was 26-10. At the end of the third quarter the Crusaders were up 43-24 and would go on to win 56-36.
Heelan had three players in double figures getting a game high 15 from Lauryn Peck, 11 from Kenly Meis and 10 from Brooklyn Stanley. Western was led by Stella Winterfeld with a 12 point afternoon.
With the win Heelan is 15-2 on the year. Western is now 6-12.
In the boys Western led 19-12 at the first quarter break and increased that to a 38-21 halftime lead. At the end of the third quarter it was 60-34 with Western getting the win 79-44.
Tate Van Regenmorter led all scorers with 24 points. 19 came in the first half. His line included four threes, five 2 point buckets and 2 of 4 from the line including converting a pair of and ones. He was joined in double figures by Ty Van Essen with 18 second half points. Eli Van Essen hit for 10 points in the contest. Heelan was led by Matt Noll who netted 19 in the contest.
With the win Western is 15-1 on the year while Heelan stands at 8-6. Up next for the Wolfpack will be a home doubleheader Tuesday night against Tea South Dakota. The Crusaders are also back in action Tuesday night hosting Council Bluffs Tom Jefferson.
