Hull, Iowa — Western Christian swept West Sioux in a basketball double header in Hull on Thursday. The Western girls won 63-39, and the boys won 75-39.
The girls game was a defensive struggle early on, and it was an 11-10 Western lead after the first quarter. Western then got their offense going in the second quarter and took a 29-17 lead into halftime. Success from behind the arc was key in the game for the Wolfpack. Lydia Van Kley lead in that department hitting 5 threes as part of her game leading 24 points. Shayla Van Beek also hit a couple threes and the Wolfpack cruised from there, finishing the game with a 63-39 win.
With the win, Western improves to 1-2 on the year, and West Sioux falls to 0-1.
In the boys game Western started hot going on a 10-0 run to begin the game and they lead after one, 21-3. They just kept piling on from there leading, 44-15 at the half. It was 65-17 after 3 quarters of play and Western cleared their bench in the fourth quarter and with a running clock got the 75-39 win.
The Wolfpack player of the game was Ty Van Essen who lead all scorers with 17 points despite not playing in the 4th quarter.
With the win, Western improves to 2-0 on the season, and West Sioux falls to 0-1.
