Winterfeld to Attend Dordt

Dordt_Defenders logoMarcus Winterfeld, a senior at Sioux Center High School, has announced his intention to attend Dordt College and join the Defender basketball program.

Winterfeld is currently averaging 17 points, ten rebounds and 4.5 assists per game for the Warriors one season after posting averages of 12.2 points, six rebounds and two assists per game. Winterfeld earned all-Siouxland Conference third-team honors last season and was part of a Siouxland Conference champion team during the 2013-14 season.

Winterfeld is listed 6-5, 200 pounds and has played forward for Sioux Center and has played in the Iowa Mavericks AAU program.

“We are elated Marcus will be a part of our program the next four years. He is a versatile player who can make a difference on both ends of the floor and possesses the ability to impact our program immediately. As a multi-sport athlete at Sioux Center high school, Marcus has been a part of numerous successful athletic teams during his career. These experiences will help him transition quickly to the college game. Marcus has received excellent coaching from Todd Arends and has also been a part of the Iowa Mavericks AAU basketball program where he gained valuable playing time. In addition to his success on the court, Marcus also excels in the classroom and we are excited his leadership skills will be utilized on our campus,” said Dordt College coach Ross Douma.

Marcus is the son of Doug and Sheryl Winterfeld of Sioux Center, Iowa. He plans to studyelementary education at Dordt College.
