Spencer, Iowa — The Western Christian Wolfpack split a Lakes Conference double header with Spencer Thursday night at the Fieldhouse in Spencer. Cold shooting plagued the Western girls as they fell 46-25, and the Western boys held on for a 64-60 win.
Spencer jumped out to a quick and had a 15-6 lead after the first quarter, and took a 25-13 lead into the half. Spencer then held Western to 2 third quarter points to pull ahead 38-15 and the Tigers went on to win 46-25.
Spencer got a game high 12 points from Allison Piercy and Jada Piercy added 10. Western got a team high 5 points from Teagan De Jager and Jaiden Groeneweg.
With the win Spencer improves to 6-2 on the year and 2-0 in the Lakes. Western falls to 2-4 on the season and 0-2 in the Conference.
The Wolfpack started the boys game firing on all cylinders as they jumped out to an 18-11 lead after the opening quarter. The Western lead would remain at 7 heading into the half at 31-24. The Wolfpack would extend their lead to 14 after three, leading 54-40. The Tigers then clawed their way back and got to within 2 points late after a Karter Petzenhauser three pointer to make it 62-60. Ashtin Van’t Hul would seal the deal for Western with two free throws and Western would escape with the 64-60 win.
Western had four players in double figures. Van’t Hul had a team high 16, Wyatt Gulker and Ty Van Essen each put in 15, and Tate Van Regenmorter added 11 points. Spencer got a game high 24 from Petzenhauser and 14 from Owen Olson.
With the win, Western improves to 4-1 on the year, and 1-1 in the Lakes. Spencer falls to 4-2 on the season and 1-1 in the conference.
Up next for Western is a home contest against Cherokee Friday night.
