Nighthawks Van Ginkel Named INS Player of the Week

nighthawk logoQuarterback Andrew Van Ginkle of Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley has been named the Class 2A Radio Iowa INS Player of the Week.

The senior passed for three touchdowns, ran 75 yards for a score, intercepted two passes on defense and blocked a punt and recovered it for a touchdown in the sixth ranked Nighthawks 55-6 victory over Cherokee.

 

Van Ginkle has helped lead Boyden Hull Rock Valley to a 7-1 overall record and a 3-1 district mark. On Friday the Nighthawks host Central Lyon George Little Rock at Hesla Field with a second place in the district and a home playoff game on the line. The Lions come in at 4-1 in the district and 6-2 on the season.


District Cross Country Assignments Find Orabs Running at Orange City

Orab-LogoDistrict Cross Country meets will be held state wide Thursday as runners qualify for State competition. The top 10 individuals and top three teams will move on to the State Meet Saturday November 2nd in Fort Dodge. The Orabs are a part of the Class 2A District qualifier hosted by Unity Christian.

Orab Volleyball Players Get Visual Representation That There Are Many Pieces To The Puzzle

Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon High School Volleyball Team continues its winning ways.

But the team got a visual reminder of the fact that there’s no “I” in team at practice on Monday night.

Junior volleyball player Jena Van Marel says Ruth Vogel, the JV volleyball coach reminded the team that there are many pieces to the Orab victory puzzle.

Orab volleyball player Allie Jongewaard presented the “community” puzzle piece to KIWA’s Tom Traughber on Tuesday afternoon.

The Orab volleyball team’s record is 31 and 4, and they are rated number two in the state in latest 3A poll. They continue play in the open region tournament Monday, October 28 at home against Estherville Lincoln Central.


Volleyball Tournament Results From Tuesday Night

volleyballThe road to Cedar Rapids began Tuesday night for Iowa Volleyball teams with the opening round for Class 1A and 2A.  There were a full slate of games on tap around the state of Iowa.

In a match broadcast on KIWA FM 105.3 Fourth-ranked Central Lyon defeated Trinity Christian 3-1 in in a Class 1A regional first-round contest last night in Rock Rapids. The set scores were 25-16, 21-25, 25-11, 25-16.

Sarah Halse led Central Lyon with 15 kills and 22 digs. Ashley Vande Stouwe recorded 14 kills and four blocks. Ivy Sieperda had 23 assists and Angel Rasmussen was the serve leader going 23-of-23.

Trinity Christian stat leaders included Nicole Gritters with 13 kills. Rochelle Kooiker had 30 assists while Vanessa Van Den Top had 22 digs to go with a 14-of-15 night serving. The Tigers finish the year with a 15-14 record.

Central Lyon improves to 23-6 and will host George-Little Rock next Tuesday in the quarterfinals. The Mustangs swept West Sioux on the road 3-0 last night.

College Football

Northwestern defeated Concordia 30-28.  Northwestern improves to 3-2 in the GPAC, 4-2 overall, while the Bulldogs fall to 4-1 in the GPAC, 6-1 overall.

Nebraska Wesleyan defeated Dordt 28-0. Dordt is now 2-5 overall and 0-5 in the GPAC, while Nebraska Wesleyan is 4-2 in the GPAC and 4-3 overall.

Dordt will host Northwestern on Saturday, October 26.

The Ohio State Buckeyes defeated the Iowa Hawkeyes, 34 to 24.

The USD Coyotes defeated the UNI Panthers 38 to 31.

The Baylor Bears embarrassed the Iowa State Cyclones 71 to 7.
