Archer, Iowa — An Archer man received minor injuries when he was struck by the mirror of a passing truck while riding his bicycle.
O’Brien County authorities say the mishap occured shortly after 3:00 Saturday afternoon on Oriole Avenue near Archer. Deputies say a 2004 Dodge pickup, driven by 23-year old Branden Lehner of Archer was southbound on Oriole Avenue, and failed to move far enough left when he passed a bicycle ridden by Bill Engeltjes of Archer.
Authorities say the mirror of Lehner’s pickup struck Engeltjes in the back, knocking him over, and causing him to fall into the ditch. Deputies say Engeltjes suffered minor injuries from the impact with the mirror and with the ground.
Lehner was reportedly ticketed for Operating a Vehicle Too Close to a Bicyclist.
