Melvin Woman Faces Felony Contraband Charge After Allegedly Being Found With Meth In Jail

Dateline — A Melvin woman has been arrested on felony contraband charges after an arrest in Sheldon.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the O’Brien County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Sheldon Police, 41-year-old Ana Carrizales Vazquez of Melvin is accused of the possession of methamphetamine in a correctional facility. She was arrested on Sunday.

In his statement, the officer says Carrizales Vazquez was arrested for meth possession during a traffic stop of a vehicle in which she was a passenger. It says the original stop was for equipment violations. While she was being booked into the O’Brien County Jail, a sharpie was found that had been hollowed out, and a bag of meth was found inside.

Since it was in a correctional facility, she was charged with not only the original misdemeanor offense of possession of methamphatamine, but also a class D felony charge of possession of contraband in a correctional facility. If convicted, Carrizales Vazquez could face up to five years in prison.

She faces a preliminary hearing on the charges on May 13th.
