Ireton Man Taken To Hospital After Accident

Ireton, Iowa — An Ireton man was taken to a hospital after an accident in Ireton on Tuesday, June 6th.

The Hawarden Police Department reports that about 6:55 a.m., 21-year-old Cody James Geary of Elk Point, SD was traveling eastbound on 470th Street at Ireton’s southeast corner, near Pleasant Hill Cemetery in a 1987 Chrysler. The police report says Geary stopped for the stop sign at the intersection of 470th Street and Eagle Avenue, and then proceeded into the intersection attempting to make a left turn onto Eagle Avenue. They say that as Geary left the stop sign he failed to yield the right of way to an oncoming 1981 Honda motorcycle driven by 59-year-old Loren Mosterd of Ireton. The vehicles are said to have collided head-on. The report says Mosterd was thrown off the motorcycle and hit Geary’s vehicle before landing on the pavement.

The Ireton Ambulance took Mosterd to Hawarden Regional Healthcare.

The police say Geary’s car sustained about $1,500 in damages, and Mosterd’s motorcycle received approximately $1000 in damage.

Geary was cited on a charge of failure to yield upon leaving a stop or yield intersection. Mosterd was cited on a charge of no proof of insurance.

The Hawarden Police Department reports that the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, Ireton Fire Department, and Ireton Ambulance Squad assisted them with the response to the accident.
