Larchwood Woman Taken To Sioux Falls Hospital After Crash

Larchwood, Iowa — A Larchwood woman was taken to a Sioux Falls hospital after a crash on the west side of Larchwood on Wednesday, October 25, 2017.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 8:30 a.m., 35-year-old Heather Brooks of Larchwood was driving a 2001 Dodge Caravan eastbound on Highway 9, when her van was struck by a vehicle driven by 90-year-old John Van Gammeren of Inwood. Van Gammeren was driving a 2003 Ford pickup southbound on Cherry Avenue and had stopped at the stop sign and proceeded to cross the highway and apparently did not see the Brooks van approaching.

The Lyon County Ambulance Squad took Brooks to a Sioux Falls hospital to be treated for what they called non-life threatening injuries. Van Gammeren was not injured, says the sheriff’s office.

They report that Brooks’ minivan sustained about $3,000 in damages, while Van Gammeren’s pickup sustained about $1,500 in damages.

Van Gammeren was cited on a charge of failure to yield. Brooks was cited on a charge of failure to use safety belt.

The Sheriff’s Office says the Lyon County Ambulance Squad, Larchwood Rescue Squad and Larchwood Fire Department assisted them.
