Semi Driver Taken To Hospital After Alton Area Crash

Alton, Iowa — A semi driver was taken to the hospital after an accident near Alton on Monday.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 11:35 a.m. 30-year-old Davus Closson of O’Neil, Nebraska was driving a 2007 Kenworth semi‐tractor pulling a livestock trailer loaded with isowean piglets, a mile south of Alton on Highway 60 when he lost control of the vehicle, which entered the east ditch. The truck and trailer rolled onto its side on the east shoulder.

The Alton Ambulance took Closson to the Orange City Hospital.

The sheriff’s office says the Kenworth sustained about $30,000 in damage. The trailer sustained approximately $10,000 in damage. The loss of the piglets was also estimated at $30,000.

The Sheriff’s Office says the Alton ambulance, Alton Fire Department, Orange City Ambulance, Orange City Fire Department and the Iowa Department of Transportation assisted them with the response to the accident.

Closson was cited on charges of failing to maintain control of a motor vehicle and failing to use a seatbelt.
