Driver Injured When Semi Rolls Over Into Ditch

AccidentGeneric 2Osceola County, Iowa — The driver of a tractor-trailer rig was hospitalized as the result of an accident that happened in Osceola County on Wednesday, July 27th.

According to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, about 12:40 pm Wednesday, a 1998 International semi pulling a load of grain, driven by 23-year old Justin Smith, of Iona, Minnesota, was eastbound on 100th Street.  Smith told deputies that an unknown problem with the truck’s steering caused the truck to pull hard to the right, which caused him to lose control of the vehicle.

Deputies say the truck entered the south ditch, and after the trailer shifted and slid into the ditch, the rig overturned, coming to rest on it’s left side.

Smith was transported to the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley, with what authorities are describing as “minor” injuries.

The tractor-trailer rig, owned by Smith Farms of Wilmont, Minnesota, sustained an estimated $60-thousand in damage.
