Elderly Hawarden Man Injured In Single-Vehicle Rollover

Hawarden, Iowa — An elderly Hawarden man was taken to the hospital in the aftermath of a single-vehicle crash near Hawarden early Wednesday morning.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred a few minutes after midnight Wednesday morning on 440th Street, one-quarter mile northeast of Hawarden.

Deputies say 75-year-old Gerald Bell, of Hawarden, was eastbound on 440th Street in a 2000 Buick LeSabre when he encountered a curve in the roadway, lost control of his vehicle, entered the north ditch and rolled.

Bell was transported by the Hawarden Ambulance to the Hawarden Hospital for treatment of his injuries, according to authorities.

The Buick sustained approximately $5,000 in damage.

Bell was reportedly cited for failing to maintain control of a motor vehicle.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Hawarden Police Department, Hawarden Ambulance, and Hawarden Fire Department.
